Heritage
A house, in its own words
The story of Antiga Barbearia de Bairro began in 2010, founded by Luís Pereira through his company 100ml, a Portuguese producer and distributor of fragrances and scented products. Pereira saw an opportunity to translate the sensory memory of old Lisbon barbershops into a modern fragrance line that could be worn daily. The name itself translates to Old Neighborhood Barbershop, a direct nod to the classic establishments that once anchored every Portuguese neighborhood, where men gathered not just for a shave but for conversation, ritual, and a brief escape from the outside world. The brand's first collection arrived in 2014 with Príncipe Real, named after one of Lisbon's most atmospheric neighborhoods known for its gardens, boutiques, and slightly bohemian character. A second collection followed, inspired by Ribeira, the historic riverside district that forms part of Porto's UNESCO-protected waterfront. The third and perhaps most recognized line, Chiado, arrived in 2017, referencing the intellectual and cultural heart of Lisbon, an area famous for its historic cafés, bookstores, and elegant architecture. Each collection builds on the same philosophy: honoring the barbershop as a place and a concept while speaking to today's man.
Antiga Barbearia de Bairro operates from a simple but compelling belief: a man's fragrance should feel personal, intimate, and connected to place. Rather than chasing international trends, the brand looks inward at Portuguese culture, finding inspiration in neighborhood streets, traditional establishments, and the sensory memories that define a community. The barbershop serves as both metaphor and muse, representing a space where grooming becomes ritual and scent becomes part of identity. The brand designs for men who want to slow down, who find meaning in their morning routine, who appreciate craftsmanship over novelty. Each fragrance aims to enhance presence rather than demand attention, to feel like a natural extension of the wearer rather than a costume. The three neighborhood collections allow men to choose a scent that resonates with their own history or aspirations, whether that means the riverside energy of Porto or the literary streets of Chiado.
