The evolution

The opening is almost entirely bergamot, bright and a little sharp, with dew drop adding a clean, almost mineral quality underneath that reads as just-sprayed. The citrus fades relatively quickly once the green notes arrive, carrying cedar leaves with them, and the whole composition pivots toward something cooler and more outdoorsy. As the fragrance develops, the cedar settles in and the musk starts threading through the structure. This is where 1977 Intense stops reading like a fresh cologne and starts reading like skin. The middle and later stages are musk and cedar needles in close conversation, with the bergamot reduced to a faint trace that only shows up if you bury your nose in your wrist. At greater distance, the cedar and musk tend to outlast everything else, lingering as a clean, dry wood scent that smells nothing like the fresh citrus that opened the bottle.
