A house, in its own words
Alessandro Dell'Acqua was born on 21 December 1962 in Naples, and by 1985 he had been named creative director of Genny, the Italian fashion house, making him one of the youngest designers to lead a major Italian label at the time. He struck out on his own in 1996, founding the Alessandro Dell'Acqua label, which became known for its particular take on Italian sensuality, mixing tailored construction with a softer, body-aware ease. The fragrance branch arrived in 2001 with the launch of Alessandro Dell'Acqua, a women's scent that bore the designer's own name and signalled his move into the world of personal fragrance. A men's counterpart followed in 2003 with Alessandro Dell'Acqua Man, and 2005 brought Woman In Rose, completing what remains the core trilogy of the line. The fashion side of the business continued to evolve in parallel, with Dell'Acqua going on to found the contemporary label N°21 in 2010 and later serving as creative director of the Parisian house Rochas, a role reported by the Business of Fashion in its BoF 500 index of people shaping the global fashion industry. The Alessandro Dell'Acqua fragrance project grew directly out of the designer's fashion work, and it carries the same instinct that defined his clothing: a Mediterranean ease, an attention to the body, and a willingness to let something feel personal rather than overly constructed. For a designer who started in knitwear and built his reputation on clothes that move with the wearer, fragrance was a natural extension, another way of expressing identity through something close to the skin. The limited range, three scents in five years, reflects a curatorial instinct rather than a volume-driven one. Each fragrance reads as an individual proposition rather than a chapter in a larger narrative, which aligns with the way Dell'Acqua has tended to approach his fashion work: one collection, one mood, one clear point of view.
