A house, in its own words
Sean Persaud founded Alchemist after years of research in nanotechnology. While employed in a laboratory, he began formulating personal fragrances in his kitchen, applying the same methodical approach he used for nanoscale projects. In 2022 he released Powder Room, a scent that marked the brand’s public debut and attracted attention from niche‑fragrance enthusiasts. The following year, Galleria arrived, showcasing a more complex structure that hinted at the house’s evolving technical skill. 2024 proved pivotal: Musc Laiteux, Cachemire, Bois et Musc, and Musc Vanille all launched, each demonstrating a distinct use of synthetic and natural musks. These releases solidified Alchemist’s reputation for rapid, high‑quality output. By 2026 the brand introduced the dual‑season pair OUT WEST A.M and OUT WEST P.M, a conceptual nod to diurnal shifts in light and mood. Throughout its growth, Alchemist has remained a local operation, producing limited batches in a modest studio that doubles as a research lab. The brand’s story is one of a scientist‑turned‑perfumer who refuses to separate analytical discipline from creative expression, building a niche that values both precision and poetry. Alchemist treats each fragrance as a controlled experiment. The house believes that scent can be quantified without losing its emotional resonance. Sean Persaud insists on documenting every ingredient ratio, yet he also leaves room for intuition, allowing seasonal influences to guide the final blend. The brand values transparency, publishing ingredient lists and the scientific rationale behind each note. Sustainability sits at the core of its decision‑making; Alchemist sources raw materials from certified farms and prefers biodegradable packaging. The creative vision embraces the idea that a perfume should evolve on the skin, mirroring how a chemical reaction continues after the initial mix. By marrying lab‑grade accuracy with artistic freedom, Alchemist aims to expand the language of niche perfumery, offering scents that feel both familiar and novel.
