    Master Perfumer

    Marine Jacolin

Some perfumers find their calling through chemistry. Others through memory. For Marine Jacolin, born in 1975, the path to Grasse, the ancient perfume capital of France, began with training at Floressence in Saint-Cézaire-sur-Siagne in the early 2000s, right in the heart of the flower-growing region she would eventually call home. She settled into the professional ranks at Charabot, one of Grasse's oldest fragrance houses, where she served as a resident perfumer and developed her craft among the raw materials that have defined French perfumery for generations. Her reputation grew beyond the workshop walls. She became the chief creator for The Different Company, the Parisian niche house known for its minimalist aesthetic and conceptual compositions. Today she holds the title of master perfumer at Parfex, a Grasse-based fragrance company operating within the Croda group, where she continues to shape scents for brands across the industry.

    The signature

    How Marine composes

Trained and based in Grasse, Jacolin draws on the full palette of the French perfumery tradition, from absolues and natural distillates to modern synthetic molecules. Her signature leans toward transparency and lift, compositions that breathe rather than smother. Working across both niche and commercial briefs has given her range: she can build a conceptual artistic statement for a selective house one week and a crowd-pleasing fine fragrance the next. Her Charabot years placed her among raw materials of exceptional quality, jasmine, rose, tuberose, the building blocks of the region, and that proximity to source informs the natural character of her work. She favors balance as a discipline, letting top notes carry brightness without becoming fleeting, anchoring florals with woods and musks that lend staying power.

    Philosophy

    What drives Marine

Jacolin's work suggests a perfumer drawn to clarity rather than spectacle, to compositions that earn their complexity through careful construction. Her time at The Different Company, a house that prizes restraint and artistic intent over ornamentation, appears to have sharpened an instinct for pared-back elegance. At Parfex, working within a B2B framework, she creates for clients whose briefs span fine fragrance, personal care, and beyond, a range that demands flexibility without sacrificing identity. Those who follow her career describe her as confident and quietly authoritative, someone who lets materials speak for themselves. She treats composition as a conversation between structure and intuition, where the formula holds firm and the imagination wanders within it.
