The Story
Why it exists.
Myrrhe Mystère arrived in September 2023, joining the Private Blend collection. The fragrance presents an unusual proposition: taking a resin that typically works behind the scenes in perfumery and placing it center stage. This particular scent started as a provocation. The result is a fragrance that builds its entire character around the warm, resinous depth of myrrh, creating something that feels both ancient and entirely modern in its presentation.

The Beginning
Myrrhe Mystère arrived in September 2023, joining the Private Blend collection. The fragrance presents an unusual proposition: taking a resin that typically works behind the scenes in perfumery and placing it center stage. This particular scent started as a provocation. The result is a fragrance that builds its entire character around the warm, resinous depth of myrrh, creating something that feels both ancient and entirely modern in its presentation.
Rodrigo Flores-Roux worked with two forms of myrrh, myrrh essence and myrrh resinoid absolute, alongside jasmine, absinthe, sandalwood, and a signature Ultra-Vanille accord. The combination is striking because myrrh itself carries this paradoxical nature: sacred and resinous, bitter and sweet. The Vanilla doesn't soften myrrh. It illuminates what's already there, the way candlelight makes gold glow instead of just shine.
The Evolution
Absinthe hits first. Cool, anise-forward, almost medicinal, that distinctive green bite that makes you pay attention. The jasmine arrives quietly, tempering the sharpness without erasing it, becoming translucent and intimate, like the smell of fabric against skin rather than a bold floral statement. The myrrh announces itself in the drydown. Not as a supporting note. As the main character. The base builds from there, vanilla cream, sandalwood threads through warm myrrh, then leather, then musk, until your skin itself becomes the fragrance. The myrrh resinoid absolute is the survivor here. Eighteen hours later, still detectable on fabric. The room feels warmer because it exists.
Cultural Impact
The Private Blend collection represents Tom Ford's singular creative vision, fragrances built around one idea pursued to its conclusion. Myrrhe Mystère fits this tradition, presenting a fragrance that makes myrrh its defining note rather than a subtle background element. The warm, resinous character of the scent creates something that feels historically rooted while presenting in a distinctly contemporary way.

This fragrance sounds like late evening in a room where someone just lit candles. The absinthe opening has that cool, green brightness, then everything softens, deepens, settles into warmth. The myrrh in the drydown is the bass note that never quite leaves. Ambient electronic meets quiet orchestral warmth.
