Heritage
A house, in its own words
Vacanza arrived on the fragrance scene in Amsterdam in late 2025, founded by entrepreneur Jonathan Keren. The concept emerged from a personal preoccupation with travel and absence. Keren wanted a way to keep moving, to stay connected to distant places, even when life made leaving impossible. The Italian word vacanza, meaning vacation or holiday, captures that longing for elsewhere. The brand wasted no time establishing a clear identity. Within months of its Dutch debut, Vacanza made its first transatlantic leap, launching in the United States and introducing American audiences to its destination-driven approach to perfumery. A pivotal early milestone was the partnership with Frank Voelkl, a perfumer whose resume includes work with some of the most respected niche and selective houses in the industry. Voelkl joined as the creative force behind the compositions, translating the brand's travel-inspired vision into actual juice. His involvement gave a young house immediate credibility and connected it to a wider lineage of contemporary independent perfumery. By late 2025 and into 2026, Vacanza had begun hosting in-person events, including a curated pop-up that brought the brand together with fellow independent perfumery L'Abeille, founded by Tim, signalling an instinct for community-building rather than solo spectacle. The brand positions itself less as a heritage dynasty and more as a young, mobile project still writing its first chapters. Vacanza treats fragrance as a form of travel you can carry. Each composition is conceived as a bottled destination, a way to bring home a piece of a place that resonated. The premise is simple but specific: scent can hold geography, climate, and memory in a way that lingers longer than a photograph. The house rejects the idea that perfume must always chase trends or mass appeal. Instead, Vacanza leans into the romance of movement, of stepping into a new city, a coastal evening, a forest after rain. Founder Jonathan Keren frames the brand as a response to the limits of modern life, where passports go unused but the desire for elsewhere never fades. What sets Vacanza apart is the pairing of a strong conceptual framework with an experienced perfumer in Frank Voelkl. The brand does not romanticize travel as luxury escape alone; it treats the act of remembering a place, of revisiting it through the nose, as a genuine emotional need. The result is a young house with a defined worldview, one that invites wearers to choose a scent the way they might choose a destination, with curiosity and intent.
