Heritage
A house, in its own words
United Colors of Benetton began not as a fragrance house but as a revolution in wool. In 1965, Luciano and Giuliana Benetton started a small knitwear business in Ponzano Veneto, northeastern Italy, with an unconventional idea: bright, bold colors in an era of subdued post-war fashion. Their colorful sweaters stood apart from the muted tones dominating Italian closets. The first store opened in Belluno in 1966, followed by Paris in 1969—rapid expansion that signaled international appetite for Benetton's vibrant approach. By the 1970s, the company had transformed from family enterprise to global fashion force. The brand's provocative advertising campaigns, often photographed by Oliviero Toscani, tackled social issues with striking imagery that generated both controversy and acclaim. Fragrance arrived in 1987 with Colors de Benetton, an oriental floral that translated the brand's chromatic identity into liquid form. Benetton by Benetton followed in 2006, another oriental floral expansion of the olfactory range. In 2016, Benetton Group entered a long-term global license agreement with Spanish beauty company Puig to develop and distribute new fragrance lines—a partnership that brought renewed creative energy to the brand's scent offerings. Recent collections like TRIBE and Sisterland continue building on Benetton's colorful legacy, bringing the house's optimistic, diverse spirit to new generations of fragrance wearers. Benetton's fragrance philosophy mirrors its fashion ethos: color as self-expression, accessibility without sacrifice. Where niche perfumers chase complexity and exclusivity, Benetton creates scents that feel like wearing a favorite hue—immediate, joyful, personal. Each fragrance corresponds to a color from the brand's signature palette, creating an olfactory spectrum where Red Rose carries warmth, Blue Neroli suggests clarity, and Green Jasmine evokes freshness. The house treats fragrance as an extension of daily identity, not an occasion-limited luxury. Recent years brought playful, youthful launches like Sisterland—a line built around community and shared experience. The name itself speaks to Benetton's inclusive approach: fragrance as a shared language rather than a solitary indulgence. Partnerships with Puig have sharpened this vision, bringing professional fragrance expertise to a house built on accessible style. Benetton fragrances don't demand解码; they invite wearers into a world where scent operates like fashion—expressive, fun, available to all.
