A house, in its own words
Eleanor Jane launched Tallulah Jane Natural Perfumery from New York City in 2009, establishing herself as both founder and perfumer of the house. Before entering fragrance creation, she worked as a certified health instructor, a background that reportedly informed her interest in plant-based ingredients and natural formulation. The brand's earliest releases, Tallulah, Gotham, and 333, all arrived in 2009, marking the debut of what would become a tightly curated catalog. Subsequent years brought additional compositions, including Leotie, Yiska, and Misae in 2010, followed by Hope in 2011. The house operates independently, without the distribution infrastructure of larger fragrance companies, and has maintained a small output of roughly ten fragrances across its active catalog. In an interview with a natural perfumery publication, Eleanor discussed the historical context of botanical scent-making, referencing methods used in perfumery as far back as the second century BC as a way to frame her own approach to working with natural materials. Tallulah Jane positions itself within the natural perfumery tradition, building scents entirely from botanical essences and absolutes rather than synthetic aroma compounds. Eleanor Jane has described her creative practice as drawing on both historical and contemporary uses of aromatic plants, grounding the house's identity in the long lineage of plant-based scent-making. The brand's social media presence emphasizes bright, character-driven compositions and a commitment to vegan and cruelty-free certification. Rather than chasing trends in mainstream perfumery, the house appears to prioritize intimate, personal fragrance narratives, with each scent seemingly tied to a specific person, place, or concept. This focus on individual storytelling, combined with a strict adherence to natural raw materials, defines the creative vision that runs through the entire Tallulah Jane catalog.
