Heritage
A house, in its own words
Steve Madden launched his eponymous brand in 1990 with a $1,100 investment, operating from a factory in Queens, New York. The young entrepreneur initially focused on footwear, building his reputation through shoe designs that captured the energy of 1990s street culture and nightlife. By the mid-1990s, the Steve Madden name had become synonymous with accessible yet stylish footwear, particularly among young consumers seeking fashion-forward options at accessible price points. The brand expanded systematically into handbags and accessories throughout the 2000s, transforming from a single-product company into a comprehensive lifestyle label. In 2018, Steve Madden made its first serious foray into fragrance with The Factory, a five-scent women's collection that included She Plays With Fire, Delusional Heart, Rose Goldie, Kiss My Rose, and Secret Girls Club. This initial fragrance chapter represented a one-time launch rather than an ongoing fragrance program. The brand returned to fragrance in 2024, announcing a partnership with Parlux that would produce a sustained fragrance lineup. Goldie Eau de Parfum debuted on April 29, 2024, serving as the first release in what the company described as a new wardrobe of scents. Rose Goldie followed in 2025, building on the Goldie concept with a floral-ambery composition and the same distinctive heart-shaped bottle design.
Steve Madden approaches fragrance with the same fearless attitude that defines its fashion collections. Rather than positioning scent as a subtle background element, the brand treats fragrance as a statement piece, something that announces presence before entering a room. This philosophy manifests in fragrance names that lean into drama and self-expression, from the confrontational She Plays With Fire to the enigmatic Delusional Heart. The brand believes fragrance should be personal and unapologetic, matching the confidence of someone who dresses to be noticed. Steve Madden's fragrance direction emphasizes modern glamour and confident self-expression, targeting consumers who view their scent wardrobe as an extension of their style identity. The partnership with Parlux reflects a strategic choice to access professional fragrance development expertise while maintaining the brand's distinctive voice. Each fragrance release under this renewed partnership aims to capture a specific mood or attitude rather than following broader market trends, positioning Steve Madden fragrance as a fashion-forward alternative to traditional fragrance houses.
