Heritage
A house, in its own words
Shiraz Parfums was founded by Aitzaz Mirza, a self-taught nose whose personal story is woven directly into the identity of the brand. Mirza was born in Lahore in 1952, a detail so central to his biography that it became both the title and thematic backbone of one of his fragrances. As a young man, he left Asia for Europe, an immigration journey that shaped his perspective on scent, memory, and belonging. He eventually settled in the United Kingdom, where he began building his perfume house from scratch, working without the institutional backing of an established couture house or corporate parent. Mirza has spoken publicly about how fragrances from his childhood, the spices, florals, and resins of the subcontinent, never left his imagination, even after decades abroad. This cultural continuity became the foundation for Shiraz Parfums, a brand that operates as a one-person creative endeavor rather than a sprawling fashion house. The house operates out of London, with ties to Battersea Power Station through industry events, and has steadily built a following among collectors who value its outsider perspective. Unlike legacy European perfumeries with centuries of archives, Shiraz Parfums is built entirely on the singular vision of its founder, making each release a direct expression of his evolving craft. At the core of Shiraz Parfums is a deeply personal approach to scent creation. Mirza treats perfumery as a form of cultural memory, a way to honor the aromatic traditions of South Asia while expressing them through the lens of someone shaped by European experience. Rather than chasing trends or market categories, the house releases compositions when Mirza feels a concept is complete, prioritizing artistic integrity over commercial cadence. The brand's name itself, Shiraz, evokes the ancient Persian city long associated with poetry, gardens, and fragrance. This reference is not incidental. It signals a creative worldview that sees perfumery as an extension of literary and artistic tradition, where scent operates alongside language and image. Each fragrance within the line carries a story, whether it references a place, a moment, or an idea, and Mirza has spoken about wanting wearers to feel a narrative when they apply his compositions. This storytelling approach distinguishes Shiraz Parfums from purely market-driven indie brands, positioning it closer to the tradition of auteur perfumery.
