Heritage
A house, in its own words
Scents Unearth'd was created under Maesa, the beauty incubator known for building and launching brands at scale. Maesa introduced the line in February 2026, positioning it as an exclusive launch within Target stores nationwide and on Target.com. The origin story is personal rather than corporate. The founders articulated the brand as something born from a deep desire to see their own cultures represented in a fragrance category that has long defaulted to a narrow set of references. Where many mass fragrance launches chase familiar territory, Scents Unearth'd starts from the premise that whole worlds of scent history remain untold on American retail shelves. The launch was structured around five fragrances, each tied to a heritage or historical narrative. Rather than treating culture as a decorative note, the brand built its initial assortment around scent stories. This editorial approach was central from the first day, not an afterthought. The exclusive Target partnership gave the debut a clear retail home and a defined audience. It also placed the brand within a mass market context, making the cultural ambition of the concept its distinguishing feature rather than a luxury price tag. Scents Unearth'd calls its team Scenthropologists, a term that captures the brand's central idea: fragrance as a form of cultural fieldwork. The creative vision treats scent as evidence of place, migration, ritual, and memory. The world is full of scent traditions, the brand argues, that have never been translated into a bottle on a mainstream shelf, and the work of the house is to find them, study them, and let them stand on their own terms. Each fragrance is framed as a scent story that reflects a specific heritage or history. The brand does not present these stories as exotic curiosities. They are positioned as missing chapters in a conversation most consumers never realized was incomplete. Curiosity is the stated guide, and the range is built around the idea that off the beaten path deserves the same craft and care as any other territory in perfumery. The philosophy also carries a commercial clarity. By centering underrepresented cultures rather than chasing trend cycles, the brand offers something that feels personal to wearers who recognize their own references and genuinely new to those who do not.
