Heritage
A house, in its own words
Scent Salim traces its origins to 2007, when founder Ilyas Salim began building what would become a dedicated Arabian perfumery resource in the United Kingdom. Some sources date the formal establishment of the brand to 2010, the year several of its earliest catalog entries, including Royal Blend, King of Arabia, and Attar Kaba Official, appear in the brand's fragrance archive. Operating initially from a small office, Salim focused on sourcing and supplying authentic Arabian oud, attars, and incense-based fragrances to a UK audience that had limited access to these categories through conventional retail. By the early 2010s, the company had expanded its catalog with regionally inspired compositions such as Moroccan Musk (2013) and Dubai Oud (2013), signaling a deliberate move toward representing signature scent profiles from across the Arab world. Regional and culturally specific releases followed: The Leeds Scent (2014), a nod to the company's home city, and Golden Musk (2014). Earlier entries such as Bakhoor (2009) and Kalimaat Oud (2008) suggest the founder was working on fragrance concepts and small-batch production before the company's formal launch. Bespoke N1, described by the brand as a custom creation developed over more than twelve years, represents a high point in the house's move toward one-of-one and limited offerings. The brand's continued operation for over fifteen years has established it as a recognizable name in the UK's niche Arabian fragrance scene. Scent Salim's creative direction centers on accessibility without dilution of tradition. The stated goal at founding was to make authentic Arabian perfumery available to UK customers who would otherwise have to travel, import, or rely on informal channels. This principle continues to guide the brand's curation: compositions are developed to remain faithful to Arabian olfactory conventions, oud-heavy, resinous, and musk-anchored, while being priced and packaged for a broader Western market. The house treats fragrance as a cultural carrier, not merely a product category. By assembling a catalog that includes Moroccan, Emirati, and specifically British-coded releases like The Leeds Scent, Scent Salim positions itself as a translator between regional traditions rather than a single-territory label. Bespoke commissions, exemplified by Bespoke N1, reflect a belief that personalization and patience are part of serious perfumery. The brand's public messaging consistently emphasizes authenticity, direct sourcing, and long-term client relationships over trend-driven launches.
