Heritage
A house, in its own words
The Roger & Gallet story begins with Giovanni Maria Farina, born in Italy in 1685, who settled in Cologne, Germany and founded what many consider the world's oldest continuously operating perfume house. His descendant, Jean Marie Farina, moved to Paris in 1806 and established his own perfume house there, bringing his family's aromatic expertise to France. In 1862, Charles Armand Roger, a merchant, and Charles Martial Gallet, a banker, acquired the Jean Marie Farina business and founded Roger & Gallet as we know it. By 1932, the house had established its flagship boutique on rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris, cementing its place in French perfumery history. Roger & Gallet became famous for renewing both the world of fragrances and the art of toiletries, transforming how people approached personal scent. Roger & Gallet operates on a philosophy of unwavering dedication to preserving historical perfumery traditions. Rather than chasing trends or reformulating for modern tastes, the house maintains original formulations essentially unchanged from their creation. This commitment to authenticity defines their creative vision. Extra Vieille remains true to the original 1806 formula, offering wearers an experience nearly identical to what Jean Marie Farina created over two centuries ago. The house believes in honoring the craft and knowledge passed down through generations, refusing to compromise on tradition even as the fragrance industry evolves around them.
