Heritage
A house, in its own words
Reebok was founded in 1958 in the United Kingdom by Joseph Foster, a former employee of J.W. Foster & Sons, the company credited with inventing the modern running shoe. The name derives from the Afrikaans spelling of "rhebok," a spring‑bok antelope known for its agility, a trait the brand has championed for more than six decades. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s Reebok introduced iconic products such as the Freestyle aerobics shoe and the Pump basketball sneaker, cementing its reputation for performance‑driven design. In the early 2000s the company expanded its portfolio through collaborations with athletes, designers and music artists, reinforcing a culture of innovation. The fragrance arm emerged in 2012 with the launch of Swet, a scent reportedly developed inside Reebok’s World Headquarters fitness centre after a two‑year research phase. The line grew steadily, adding gender‑focused releases like Cool Your Body For Her and For Him in 2022, and the broader Iconic Statement trio (Red, Blue, White) in 2024. By 2026 the brand introduced Activate Your Senses For Her, marking the newest entry in a portfolio that now spans more than a dozen scents. Reebok’s fragrance journey mirrors its athletic heritage: it blends functional research with a desire to inspire movement beyond the gym. Reebok frames scent as an extension of athletic performance. The brand states that its fragrances aim to boost confidence, energise the wearer and reinforce a sense of purpose. To achieve this, Reebok partners with Tailored Perfumes, a laboratory known for data‑driven scent creation. Together they translate kinetic concepts—such as speed, endurance and focus—into olfactory notes. The brand emphasises inclusivity, offering separate lines for women and men while also producing unisex options that reflect a shared workout experience. Reebok’s messaging avoids vague superlatives; instead it references concrete themes like “confidence” and “energy” that align with its broader sport‑centric narrative. The company also highlights sustainability, noting that ingredient sourcing follows responsible practices wherever possible, though detailed certifications are not publicly listed.
