Heritage
A house, in its own words
Kershen Teo grew up in Singapore before relocating to London, where he established Prosody London in 2018 as a vehicle for his vision of natural perfumery. Teo's background prior to founding the house remains largely private, though his journey into perfumery appears rooted in a personal passion for botanical materials and artisanal craftsmanship rather than formal fragrance industry training. The name Prosody derives from the rhythm and cadence of verse, suggesting Teo's intention to approach fragrance composition with the precision and musicality of a poet. The brand launched with a debut collection of eight fragrances in 2018, including Rose Rondeaux, Oud Octavo, Neroli Nuance, Jacinth Jonquil, Lissom Linden, and Mocha Muscari. This initial offering established the house's commitment to literary naming conventions and botanical composition. Lantern Reed followed in 2019, alongside Ocean Commotion and Bebop Allure. Paper Flower Fan arrived in 2020, expanding the collection further. The house later introduced an eau de cologne line, broadening its accessibility while maintaining the organic and botanical formulation standards. Indigo Perfumery, a specialist retailer known for curating independent fragrance houses, selected Prosody London for their collection, providing the brand with a retail partner in the niche fragrance market. Prosody London operates on the principle that natural materials offer depth and complexity that synthetic alternatives cannot replicate. The house rejects mass production entirely, instead producing fragrances in small batches to maintain quality and ensure each scent receives the attention its composition demands. Teo has spoken about his commitment to aesthetic quality alongside ethical purity, suggesting that beauty and responsibility are not opposing forces in perfumery but complementary ones. The brand positions itself for consumers who value authenticity, describing its audience as men who seek genuine expression over commercial fragrance conventions. By working exclusively with botanical and organic materials, Prosody London aligns itself with a growing movement within niche perfumery that prioritizes transparency about ingredient sourcing and formulation. The house's approach treats each fragrance as a complete artistic statement rather than a product designed for broad market appeal.
