A house, in its own words
Fabienne F. Fadeley, born June 20, 1951, established Possets Perfume as an independent fragrance house in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her background included extensive engagement with classical Mediterranean history and culture, which profoundly influenced the brand's creative direction. Fabienne reportedly drew inspiration from her travels throughout the Mediterranean region, including documented visits to locations such as Syracuse in Sicily and along the Ionian Sea, reflecting her deep connection to the classical world that would later inform her fragrance concepts. The company operated as a one-woman enterprise, with Fabienne handling all aspects of creation, production, and operations. Possets developed a devoted following within the indie fragrance community, particularly among collectors who appreciated unconventional aromatic compositions and the academic rigor underlying Fabienne's approach to scent construction. The brand's catalog expanded steadily from its establishment through the 2010s, with releases spanning diverse themes from operatic inspiration to gourmand interpretation. Fabienne passed away on October 2, 2016, marking the end of the Possets enterprise. Following her death, the company ceased operations, leaving behind a catalog of limited-edition releases that continue to circulate among fragrance collectors and command attention in the secondary market. Possets operated from a belief that perfume should function as an artistic medium rather than merely a consumer product. Fabienne F. Fadeley approached fragrance creation with intellectual curiosity, drawing thematic inspiration from diverse cultural sources including classical music compositions, fine art movements, literary references, and historical narratives. Rather than adhering to conventional fragrance family classifications, she pursued unusual aromatic combinations that challenged expected olfactory partnerships. The brand's naming conventions reflected this artistic orientation, with releases such as Dies Irae (Verdi) referencing specific musical works and Summer (Mucha) acknowledging Art Nouveau illustration. Fabienne's academic approach manifested in meticulous attention to material selection and combination, with each fragrance representing a carefully considered narrative rather than a simple pleasant accord. The company produced two parallel collections to accommodate different philosophical positions within the fragrance community: the Classic Possets line embraced the creative freedom afforded by diverse aromatic materials including synthetics, while the 100% Natural Possets line respected the constraints and particular qualities of naturally-sourced ingredients. Both lines shared an underlying commitment to unconventional aromatic storytelling.
