Heritage
A house, in its own words
The team behind Plantes & Parfums began working together in the early 1990s, cultivating and distilling essential oils in the hills surrounding Grasse and the Valensole plateau. After more than three decades of hands‑on experience with raw botanical material, the founders formalised the brand in the early 2010s, choosing the name Plantes & Parfums to reflect a straightforward commitment to plant‑derived scents. The first public launch arrived in 2012 with Cèdre Blanc, a fragrance that highlighted sustainably harvested cedar from Corsica and quickly attracted attention from niche‑fragrance blogs. In 2015 the house expanded its catalogue with Lavande Espiègle, a tribute to the region’s iconic lavender, followed by Rose Secrète in 2017, which sourced roses grown in a protected valley near Grasse. By 2018 the brand secured distribution in boutique stores across Europe and North America, marking its first major international presence. A notable milestone occurred in 2021 when the house introduced Lumière d’Ambre, a composition that combined amber resin with locally sourced verbena, demonstrating a willingness to blend traditional ingredients with subtle modern twists. Throughout its evolution, the brand has remained a small‑batch operation, preserving the artisanal ethos that defined its early years while gradually adopting more transparent sourcing practices and eco‑friendly packaging solutions. The story of Plantes & Parfums is therefore less about rapid expansion and more about a steady, plant‑centric journey that honors the Provençal landscape and its centuries‑old perfume heritage. Plantes & Parfums positions nature as the primary author of each fragrance. The house believes that a scent should convey the place of origin as clearly as a photograph, so every ingredient is traced back to a specific terroir. The brand’s values include biodiversity protection, fair relationships with local growers, and minimal reliance on synthetics. Rather than chasing trends, the creative team selects a single botanical focus for each launch, allowing the nuance of that plant to emerge without competing notes. Transparency is a core tenet; ingredient lists are published on the website, and the sourcing region is noted on each label. Sustainability informs packaging decisions, with recycled glass and paper used wherever possible. The creative vision is guided by a belief that perfume can act as a bridge between the wearer and the natural world, encouraging mindfulness of the environment through scent. This philosophy is reinforced by collaborations with regional artisans who contribute hand‑drawn illustrations for the bottles, reinforcing the idea that every aspect of the product should echo the original plant story.
