A house, in its own words
Phil Julian entered the fragrance landscape in 2025 as a new German niche house, launching with a single debut composition rather than a broader collection. The founder, who shares the brand's name, grew up in Heidelberg, and that city, with its layered personal history, became the conceptual starting point for the house's first release, Fovere. The choice to begin with one fragrance rather than a full line reflected an intention to build slowly and let each composition stand on its own terms. By 2026 the label had introduced additional releases, including Green Cactus and Vanilla CO₂ & Oud, signaling a deliberate, measured pace of expansion rather than rapid catalog growth. Despite its youth, the house drew early attention for its decision to produce in Italy rather than domestically, a move that points to a founder prioritizing specific artisanal production capabilities over geographic convenience. The label frames its creative direction around the idea that fragrance is an art form, and structures its output accordingly, treating each release as a self-contained expression rather than a seasonal product. The founder's attachment to Heidelberg suggests a philosophy grounded in personal geography and memory, where scent becomes a vessel for lived experience rather than an abstraction. The decision to work in limited editions reflects a value placed on scarcity and intention over volume, allowing each composition to receive close attention from conception through release. Rather than chasing trends or building a broad portfolio, the house appears committed to a slow-release cadence, giving individual fragrances room to develop an identity before the next chapter is introduced.
