A house, in its own words
The origins of Oud Factory trace to 2017, when the house emerged to address a growing global interest in authentic oud-based perfumery. While the brand operates primarily as an online retailer, its connection to the wider world of oud production became evident through the establishment of Real Oud Factory production facilities in Dubai, a city that has become a significant hub for oud trade and fragrance innovation. The Dubai-based factory, according to industry reporting, was founded with ties to Fragrance Du Bois and its parent company Fragrance Holdings, suggesting a broader infrastructure supporting the brand's operations. This connection to established fragrance holdings provides insight into how a relatively young house could develop a serious collection of oud perfumes. The house launched its first scents including Il Mio Cuore, Fumo Dolce, and Tabaco Cubano in 2020, followed by Dōkutsu Kanam that same year, establishing a pattern of releasing multiple compositions annually. By 2025, the brand had expanded to include Obsidian Bloom, demonstrating continued creative output over nearly eight years of operation.
Oud Factory appears to operate from a conviction that oud, despite its historical association with formality and occasion-specific wear, deserves a broader place in contemporary perfumery. Their catalog suggests a house willing to experiment with oud in contexts ranging from smoky tobacco blends to bright, airy compositions. The Japanese-themed release Harukaze, which translates roughly to spring wind, demonstrates this willingness to take oud out of its traditional comfort zone. Rather than positioning oud as an intimidating or prohibitively precious ingredient, the brand seems to favor accessibility alongside quality, allowing customers to explore the material through varied compositions. This approach implies a belief that oud's complex, resinous character can coexist with other fragrance families rather than dominating them entirely.
