Heritage
A house, in its own words
Olivier Strelli established his eponymous fashion house in Belgium, reportedly in 1979, beginning with ready-to-wear for men before expanding into broader collections. The brand quickly grew into a notable presence within Belgian fashion, developing womenswear and childrenswear lines alongside accessories. The move into fragrance came several decades after the fashion launch, with the Olivier Strelli fragrance debuting in 2005 as a womens scent. The 2007 release of The World Is Wonderful followed, expanding the fragrance wardrobe. While the brand is primarily known as a Belgian fashion house, its fragrance output has remained relatively compact compared to the sprawling collections of larger fashion houses. Belgian fashion history during this period included several independent designers building international reputations while maintaining close ties to local craft traditions, a context in which Strelli operated.
The Olivier Strelli approach to fragrance draws from the same sensibility that defined the fashion house: clean lines, wearability, and an emphasis on immediate appeal. Rather than pursuing avant-garde or highly conceptual fragrance narratives, the brand has favored compositions with accessible fruit and floral elements. The collaboration with Corinne Cachen reflects a preference for working with established perfumers who could deliver recognizable, pleasing structures. This pragmatic approach to scent mirrors the ready-to-wear origins of the fashion house, where the goal was to create garments people could actually wear, not just admire. The fragrance line carries this philosophy forward, targeting consumers who appreciate considered design without excess ornamentation.
