A house, in its own words
The story of O'Driu begins in 2010 when Angelo Orazio Pregoni, a visual artist based in Italy, decided to translate his studio practice into scent. According to a 2010 feature on the Kafkaesque Blog, the project was conceived as an artistic extension rather than a commercial venture. Pregoni had already founded NoUseART, a movement that encourages creators to work beyond market expectations, and he applied the same philosophy to perfumery. The first fragrance, Lalfeorosa, appeared in 2011 and was followed by a series of releases that year, including Lalfeogrigio, Lafro, Vis et Honor, Linfedele 1003, and Laltrove 1001. 2012 saw the introduction of Laurhum and Supercilium, while 2014 added Linfedele Haiku, a scent that references the Japanese poetic form. In 2016, the provocative title Kiss My Ass AngelOrazioPregoni entered the catalogue, underscoring the brand’s willingness to challenge conventional naming. Throughout its first decade, O'Driu maintained a practice of issuing each fragrance in strictly limited runs, sometimes as few as four individual units, a detail highlighted in a Charlatans blog post on the brand’s release strategy. This scarcity model has cultivated a dedicated following among collectors who value the rarity and artistic intent of each bottle. By 2023, O'Driu remained a small‑scale operation, with Pregoni continuing to oversee both the creative direction and the visual presentation of each launch, reinforcing the house’s reputation as an art‑first perfume laboratory.
O'Driu’s creative vision is rooted in the belief that fragrance can function as a visual medium. Pregoni treats each scent as a three‑dimensional canvas, using notes to paint moods rather than to follow market trends. The brand’s statements, as reported by independent fragrance blogs, emphasize a dialogue between scent and memory, often invoking obscure historical or literary references. This approach aligns with the NoUseART ethos, which rejects commercial imperatives in favor of pure artistic expression. O'Driu also values transparency in its ingredient choices, favoring natural extracts when possible while experimenting with synthetics that serve a narrative purpose. The house avoids generic claims of luxury, instead letting the rarity of its releases and the specificity of its compositions speak for themselves. Each fragrance is presented as a limited edition artwork, encouraging owners to experience the perfume as a personal, immersive story rather than a mass‑produced commodity.
