Heritage
A house, in its own words
The brand traces its roots to a modest workshop in Montreal where Michel Germain spent five years refining his first collection. In 1994 the line launched at Hudson's Bay, marking the first public appearance of a fragrance line that began with women‑only offerings. The debut perfume, Séxūal, emerged from a personal tribute to Germain’s wife, Norma, and set the tone for the house’s focus on love‑driven storytelling. Over the next decade the portfolio expanded to include the Deauville series, a homage to the French seaside town that first inspired the founder during a 2010 trip. By 2018 the line introduced Deauville France, a fresh reinterpretation that paired marine accords with warm amber. The brand’s growth continued with the 2020 launch of Séxūal Gold Vanille, a richer take on the original formula, and the 2022 introduction of David, a masculine fragrance that blended cedar and spice. In 2024 Michel Germain released three new scents—Wonderful, Deauville France L'air De Vivre, and Sugarful Sweet Nothings—demonstrating the house’s commitment to evolving its narrative language while staying true to its origins. Throughout its history the house has maintained a small‑batch production model, allowing close oversight of ingredient quality and scent stability. In 2022 the founder received the industry’s Lifetime Achievement award, a recognition that highlighted more than 25 years of contribution to the fragrance community. Today the brand operates from its Montreal headquarters, where a team of perfumers and artisans continue to craft scents that balance nostalgia with contemporary flair. Michel Germain approaches perfumery as a dialogue between memory and material. The founder believes that a fragrance should act as a personal journal, recording moments that can be revisited with each wear. This belief drives the house to prioritize narrative clarity over trend chasing. Each composition begins with a story—whether a love letter to a spouse, a recollection of a seaside promenade, or an ode to a sweet childhood treat. The brand values transparency in sourcing, favoring ingredients that can be traced back to their origin farms or distilleries. Sustainability is woven into the creative process; the house seeks out suppliers who practice responsible harvesting and supports regional cooperatives when possible. Collaboration also plays a role: while Michel Germain remains the creative director, he invites guest perfumers to reinterpret classic motifs, ensuring fresh perspectives without diluting the core voice. The result is a portfolio that feels intimate yet universally resonant, inviting wearers to write their own chapters within each scent’s framework.
