A house, in its own words
The story of Meshaz Natural Perfumes begins long before its official founding, rooted in the hands-on work of Mesha Munyan as a grower and distiller of aromatic botanicals. For approximately twenty years prior to launching the brand, Munyan dedicated herself to cultivating and processing lavender cultivars and a diverse range of herbs, building expertise in the agricultural and alchemical foundations of natural perfumery. This extended period of botanical work shaped her understanding of raw materials at their source, an approach that would later define the brand's identity. The company was formally established in 2013 in Washington State, with the Olympic Mountains providing a distinctive microclimate for growing certain aromatic plants. Munyan had already become recognized within the natural fragrance community as a producer of lavender materials before introducing her own perfume line. The transition from ingredient supplier to finished fragrance creator marked a significant evolution in her career, allowing her to directly control the expression of her botanical knowledge in wearable form. The brand's location in Sequim, Washington places it within a region known for lavender cultivation, where agricultural traditions intersect with the craft of perfumery. Meshaz Natural Perfumes emerged from this specific combination of geographic, horticultural, and artisanal circumstances, reflecting a maker who understood ingredients from seed to finished product. Mesha Munyan has described scent as an invitation to enjoy life in the moment, a philosophy that infuses the approach of Meshaz Natural Perfumes. The founder's perspective draws directly from her decades of working with living plants, where attention to seasonal variation and natural cycles shapes both cultivation and creative output. Rather than pursuing trend-driven compositions, the brand maintains a commitment to natural materials that reflects the founder's origins as a distiller and grower. This grounding in botanical reality influences how fragrances are conceived, with the quality and character of raw materials serving as a starting point rather than an afterthought. The house operates without external perfumers, with Munyan serving as the sole creative force behind the collection. This concentration of creative control ensures that the vision remains consistent across all releases, though it also means the brand's output reflects one individual's aesthetic sensibility and technical expertise. The natural fragrance approach carries specific constraints that the house accepts, including the particular behavior of botanical materials in formulation and the variations that occur across harvests. Rather than viewing these as limitations, the brand appears to embrace them as part of a more authentic relationship between fragrance and its botanical origins.
