Heritage
A house, in its own words
Maryaj traces its roots to a 25-year family history in fragrance, with the brand's self-described origins stretching back to a period of immersion in the perfume trade before the formal launch of the Maryaj label. The company is led by founder and CEO Ajiazena Ballarava Omola, whose family background in scent-making informs both the creative direction and the business strategy. While the brand maintains its headquarters in Dubai, a city synonymous with global fragrance commerce, Maryaj has pursued an outward-facing expansion model, establishing retail footholds across the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. A significant milestone came with the official launch of Maryaj Perfumes in Nigeria, hosted in partnership with Khaltenscents, marking the brand's entry into the West African market. The brand has also showcased its lineup at high-traffic venues such as Global Village Dubai, a seasonal cultural and retail destination that draws millions of visitors each season. The catalog has grown steadily, with Fragrantica currently listing 25 perfumes under the Maryaj name, a number that reflects consistent product development rather than sporadic releases. Maryaj's approach to international growth has been measured, relying on regional distribution partners and event-based visibility rather than flagship retail expansion. At its core, Maryaj approaches fragrance as a daily ritual, a product category meant to accompany the full range of human experience rather than be reserved for special occasions. The brand's stated creative vision draws on three pillars: passion, craftsmanship, and nature, each of which informs the development pipeline. Rather than chasing a single signature house scent, Maryaj has chosen to build a varied portfolio where individual fragrances can be matched to specific emotional states, from the warmth of After Dark to the softness of Serene and the playfulness of I Dream. This mood-driven approach reflects a philosophy that scent is inseparable from personal identity, the idea that what someone wears communicates before they speak. The brand's presence in over 35 countries suggests a deliberate effort to make this philosophy accessible across cultures, recognizing that while fragrance preferences vary by region, the desire for scent as self-expression is universal.
