Heritage
A house, in its own words
Erbario Toscano traces its origins to the hills near Viareggio, a seaside town in Tuscany, Italy. The company was founded more than 55 years ago, beginning as a dried flower and potpourri business. According to reports, Guido Bertozzi established the initial operation, which drew from Renaissance-era traditions. Florentine noblewomen historically carried rare mixtures of flowers, fruit, and spices in small containers, a practice that inspired the early potpourri formulations. His son, Egisto Bertozzi, later took over the company and expanded its direction into broader fragrance categories. Under his stewardship, Erbario Toscano moved beyond potpourri to develop home fragrance diffusers, body fragrances, and personal care products. The brand maintains its Tuscan identity while serving international markets, with a dedicated North American operation established to serve customers in the United States and Canada.
Erbario Toscano approaches fragrance through the lens of Tuscan botanical tradition. The brand name itself translates to Tuscan Herbalist, reflecting its foundation in the region's centuries-old relationship with aromatic plants and herbs. Rather than synthetic compositions, the company formulates its scents around natural essences associated with the Tuscan landscape. This botanical focus manifests in scent names that reference local ingredients and landscapes, creating a fragrance vocabulary tied to place. The brand positions itself as part of an artisan tradition, suggesting handcrafted production methods and attention to ingredient quality. The Renaissance connection to Florentine noblewomen's potpourri traditions grounds the brand in cultural heritage rather than purely commercial fragrance trends.
