A house, in its own words
ERAM launched in November 2024 as a new fragrance project from POLA ORBIS Holdings, the Tokyo-based beauty conglomerate behind POLA, ORBIS, and other Japanese cosmetics brands. The timing marked a deliberate step into a category where the parent company had limited prior presence. The debut arrived quietly but with clear intention. By August 2025, ERAM hosted its first pop-up at Osaka Hankyu Men's, a one-week event on the first floor that introduced the line to curious noses in Kansai. The response confirmed appetite for a fragrance concept built around individual perception rather than prescribed taste. Later that year, the brand earned formal recognition. ERAM's composition "29-別人" won Gold at the Best Fragrance Awards 2025, hosted by the Japanese beauty media Perfume & You. The award signaled that the house's unusual premise, choosing scent through feeling rather than fragrance notes, resonated with both critics and consumers. In September 2026, ERAM expanded into a new cultural arena: a collaboration with the Mori Art Museum, one of Japan's most respected contemporary art institutions. The partnership placed the brand at the intersection of fragrance and visual art, reinforcing a core idea that scent, like art, invites personal interpretation. Founded in 2024, ERAM remains in its earliest chapter, yet the trajectory already shows a brand willing to challenge conventions in how Japanese fragrance is conceived and chosen. ERAM's central belief is simple and radical: fragrance should be chosen by sensibility, not instruction. The house rejects the conventional fragrance hierarchy that tells you which notes belong on a man or woman, which season suits which composition, or which concentration matches which occasion. Instead, it asks you to trust your own perception. The brand tagline captures this directly. In Japanese, "自分勝手に香りを楽しむ、"感性"が味方するフレグランス" translates to fragrance where your sensibility is on your side. ERAM frames scent selection as an intuitive, even emotional act. You might choose a fragrance because the illustration on its packaging moves you, because the title sounds like something you want to feel today, or because the color reminds you of a memory. None of these entry points require any knowledge of perfumery. This approach also redefines what wearing fragrance means. ERAM suggests that scent is not a statement about who you are to others, but an expression of who you feel you are in a given moment. The brand calls this "multi-sensory" selection: engaging sight, language, emotion, and finally smell, in whatever order feels natural. The result is a democratic, almost playful philosophy. Perfume becomes less about projection and more about private resonance. ERAM positions itself not as an authority, but as a quiet provider of options for a deeply personal ritual.
