Heritage
A house, in its own words
The Coolife story begins not in a corporate office but in the salons of Rochas, the Parisian fashion and fragrance house established by Marcel Rochas in 1925. Pauline Rochas grew up surrounded by the meticulous craft of haute couture and the artistry of perfumery, absorbing the standards and sensibilities that would later inform her own work. When she partnered with Carole Beaupré to launch Coolife, the two brought complementary expertise to the venture. Rochas contributed the inherited knowledge of French fragrance tradition, while Beaupré added her own perspective on contemporary scent design. The brand emerged during a period of renewed interest in artisanal perfumery, as consumers began seeking alternatives to mainstream commercial fragrances. Coolife positioned itself within this niche segment, offering limited compositions that prioritized artistic intent over mass-market appeal. The partnership between Rochas and Beaupré produced seven fragrances between 2014 and 2017, each numbered sequentially in French. This numbering system (Premier through Septieme) created a framework for exploration, encouraging collectors and enthusiasts to experience the evolution of the brand's olfactory language across releases. The collaboration with Yann Vasnier and Patricia Choux, both established figures in niche perfumery, lent technical expertise to the project's creative vision. Coolife operates from a conviction that fragrance should serve as an expression of a better self, a sentiment reflected in the brand's social media presence. This philosophy positions scent not as mere olfactory decoration but as a tool for personal transformation and intentional living. The sequential naming convention itself embodies the brand's belief in fragrance as journey, each numbered release representing a step in an ongoing exploration rather than a standalone product. Rochas and Beaupré approach perfumery as a dialogue between creator and wearer, designing compositions that invite individual interpretation. Rather than prescribing the occasions or meanings attached to each scent, Coolife leaves space for personal association and emotional response. The brand's avoidance of aggressive marketing language and its reliance on word-of-mouth within fragrance communities reflects a philosophy that trusts the work itself to communicate its value. Coolife does not claim to redefine industry standards or revolutionize fragrance craft, but rather contributes its perspective to the broader conversation in niche perfumery. The emphasis on collaboration with recognized perfumers suggests a respect for specialized expertise and the belief that great fragrance emerges from partnership rather than isolation.
