The name Centauri draws from the Centaurus constellation, a southern sky asterism visible from the southern United States, southern Europe, Australia, and much of South America. The brand was incorporated as Centauri Perfumes Ltd, with company records available through UK Companies House. The first two releases, Dendera and Gaea, arrived in 2019. Dendera references the ancient Egyptian temple complex dedicated to the goddess Hathor, while Gaea takes its name from the Greek primordial deity of Earth. Peter Carter appears to serve as both the nose and creative director, a common structure in small independent houses where one person oversees formulation and artistic direction. The house has since expanded to ten named fragrances released between 2019 and 2025, with releases including Proxima (2020), Antheia (2021), Om (2021), Mirabai (2022), Elixir (2023), Carina (2024), Santalamore (2024), and Vanillium (2025).
