    Brand Profile

    Centauri Perfumes

Centauri Perfumes is an independent artisan fragrance house founded in late 2019 and operated from Yorkshire, England. The brand crafts small-batch perfumes inspired by astronomical phenomena, mythological figures, and natural elements, with the founder and sole perfumer reportedly being Peter Carter. Each release carries a name drawn from celestial bodies or ancient references, creating a cohesive catalog that spans oriental florals, amber-heavy compositions, and atmospheric oriental fragrances. The house operates entirely outside mainstream luxury distribution, selling directly to consumers through its online platform.

    Heritage

A house, in its own words

The house officially launched on December 22nd, 2019, according to records on fragrance community databases. The name Centauri draws from the Centaurus constellation, a southern sky asterism visible from the southern United States, southern Europe, Australia, and much of South America. The brand was incorporated as Centauri Perfumes Ltd, with company records available through UK Companies House. The first two releases, Dendera and Gaea, arrived in 2019. Dendera references the ancient Egyptian temple complex dedicated to the goddess Hathor, while Gaea takes its name from the Greek primordial deity of Earth. Peter Carter appears to serve as both the nose and creative director, a common structure in small independent houses where one person oversees formulation and artistic direction. The house has since expanded to ten named fragrances released between 2019 and 2025, with releases including Proxima (2020), Antheia (2021), Om (2021), Mirabai (2022), Elixir (2023), Carina (2024), Santalamore (2024), and Vanillium (2025). The brand maintains its fully independent status, operating without external investment or licensing arrangements common in larger perfume houses.

The brand positions itself around storytelling through scent, with each fragrance designed to evoke specific imagery or emotional states. The celestial and mythological naming convention suggests an interest in narrative fragrance creation where the name and concept inform the wearer is experience. The house emphasizes small-batch production as a philosophical commitment rather than simply a practical constraint, implying that limited production allows for greater attention to individual formulations. Self-described as artisan niche, the brand occupies a specific position in the fragrance market between fully commercial designer fragrances and ultra-high-end maisons with decades of heritage. The Yorkshire base reportedly influences the house is approach, though specific regional influences on the fragrance direction remain undocumented in available sources. The brand is committed to fully independent operation, a structural choice that shapes everything from ingredient selection to distribution.
