A house, in its own words
Abahna was founded in 2005 by Ed and Claire Croft, a husband and wife team whose first encounters with the aromatic bathing rituals of Bali sparked the idea for a bath-focused British brand. The company grew out of the couple's desire to translate the sensory richness of those ceremonies, where flowers, oils, and steam fill the air, into products designed for the home. Based in Norfolk, the brand built its early reputation around bath accessories, including what it calls The Original Bath Pillow, before expanding into body care, home fragrance, and eventually fine fragrance. The shift into perfumery came in 2011, when Abahna launched its debut quartet of scents: White Grapefruit & May Chang, Mandarin & Sicilian Bergamot, Frangipani & Orange Blossom, and Lilac Rose & Geranium. A fifth composition, Vetiver & Cedarwood, followed in 2013. Throughout its two decades in business, the brand has remained a family-run operation, retaining the same hands-on sensibility that defined its founding. From a single inspiration in Bali to a multi-category home fragrance house, Abahna's trajectory reflects a slow, deliberate evolution rather than rapid expansion. At the heart of Abahna is the conviction that scent is a portal, a way of travelling without moving, conjuring a garden in Marrakech or a temple offering in Ubud through a single inhalation. The Crofts approach fragrance as an extension of bathing ritual rather than a separate luxury pursuit. Each composition is built around a sensory place or memory, giving the collection a travelogue quality without veering into the overtly exotic or escapist. The brand's creative direction favors clarity over complexity, pairing named botanical ingredients in a way that feels intuitive rather than engineered. This is perfumery conceived as part of a broader bathing world, where body lotion, bath foam, candle, and eau de parfum share the same olfactory language. The result is a house philosophy that treats the bath as a ceremony worth slowing down for, and fragrance as one of its essential ingredients.
