    Zisis Kapsalis

Zisis Kapsalis arrived in Florence on a study visa and never really left. Born in Athens, he found his calling in the Tuscan capital more than 25 years ago, eventually settling there as what he describes as a "happily adopted Florentine." At Aquaflor, he serves as both perfumer and olfactory guide, a dual role that reflects his belief that scent is something to be experienced and understood, not merely worn. His work spans custom fragrance creation and educational experiences at the brand's Florence atelier. The precision and patience required in Italian artisanal perfumery clearly shaped his approach. Kapsalis brings a Mediterranean sensibility to his craft, informed by his Greek heritage and his decades immersed in Florentine perfume tradition.

    How Zisis composes

His style blends Italian artisanal tradition with Mediterranean openness. Kapsalis gravitates toward natural materials and respects the integrity of each ingredient, allowing compositions to unfold with clarity rather than complexity for its own sake. His work with Aquaflor emphasizes place and atmosphere, capturing the spirit of the Florentine atelier in liquid form. The limited publicly documented creations suggest a deliberate, unhurried approach to the craft, choosing depth over volume.

    Philosophy

    What drives Zisis

Kapsalis treats fragrance as a dialogue between maker and wearer. Rather than imposing a singular vision, he guides people toward understanding their own olfactory preferences, helping them discover what resonates with them personally. This educational dimension runs through everything he does at Aquaflor, where he conducts workshops and consultations that treat scent as something to be explored rather than simply consumed. His philosophy holds that perfume carries memory and emotion in equal measure, and that a perfumer's job is to unlock those connections for each individual.
