    Master Perfumer

    Tiago Motta

Tiago Motta did not arrive at perfumery through convention. Born in São Bernardo do Campo, Brazil, he built a career through the less-traveled corridors of the fragrance industry, working across evaluation, marketing, and the laboratory before settling into the creative heart of the craft. This winding path gave him something rare: a fluency in fragrance from multiple angles simultaneously. Today, Motta works as a perfumer at Takasago, one of the oldest and most respected fragrance houses in Japan, where he operates within a global creative network. He approaches each brief not as a technical assignment but as an open question, bringing genuine curiosity and methodical energy to every composition. His work with Fuli, a new fragrance brand launched in 2025, marked one of his first publicly credited creative partnerships, producing six fragrances that reflected his commitment to craft over convention.

    How Tiago composes

Motta's style reflects the breadth of his journey through the industry. Having worked in evaluation and marketing before stepping into creation, he understands how a fragrance must communicate both emotionally and commercially. His compositions tend toward precision, with careful attention to structure and wearability. He draws on his Brazilian roots for sensory memory and his global exposure through Takasago for technical depth. Whether working with crisp citrus, warm woods, or more complex Oriental constructions, Motta favors compositions that reveal something new over time, rewarding attention rather than announcing themselves loudly.

    Philosophy

    What drives Tiago

Motta describes himself as hopelessly devoted to fragrances, and that devotion runs through everything he does. A self-described scents seeker and globetrotter, he treats each brief as an opportunity to translate an idea into something tangible and lasting. Rather than chasing trends, he seems drawn to the challenge of finding what a brand or brief genuinely wants to say and giving it a voice people can actually wear. His philosophy centers on clarity and intent, building fragrances that feel purposeful rather than ornamental.
