    Tanja Deurloo

Tanja Deurloo earned a cum laude doctorate in Physical‑Organic Chemistry from Utrecht University in 1991, then turned her analytical mind toward scent. For nearly a decade she applied her lab expertise to corporate fragrance projects before she opened Perfume Lounge in Amsterdam in 2009. The boutique gave her a canvas to merge rigorous chemistry with personal storytelling. Within the same year she launched Annindriya, a line that experiments with unconventional delivery systems and skin‑compatible blends. Over the past fifteen years Tanja has guided a small team of artisans, consulted for niche houses, and built a reputation for turning scientific curiosity into wearable emotion. Her career balances the precision of a researcher with the intuition of a storyteller, a blend that continues to attract collectors and curious newcomers alike.

    How Tanja composes

In the lab Tanja favors transparent, single‑origin essences and often builds around a single anchor note that she layers with supporting accords. She frequently uses natural absolutes such as rose otto, sandalwood, and oud, pairing them with synthetics that add depth without overwhelming the composition. Her technique includes micro‑encapsulation, allowing a scent to evolve over hours on the skin. She prefers dry‑down structures that reveal new facets as they settle, and she avoids heavy fixatives that mask the original intent. The result is a clean, evolving fragrance that feels both scientific and sensuous.

    Philosophy

    What drives Tanja

Tanja believes scent should echo the chemistry of memory while respecting the skin’s biology. She starts each brief by asking what feeling a moment evokes, then translates that emotion into a molecular sketch. Her work respects sustainability; she favors ingredients that can be sourced responsibly and that interact gently with the wearer. By treating fragrance as a dialogue between lab and life, she creates pieces that feel both precise and personal. The drive to explore how tiny molecules can trigger large feelings keeps her studio humming.
