    Master Perfumer

    Maddin

Maddin first smelled the world through the gardens of Grasse, where lavender, rosemary and jasmine grow side by side. After earning a chemistry degree at the University of Nice, Maddin entered a seven-year apprenticeship at a historic fragrance house. The program mixed laboratory analysis with hands‑on blending, and senior noses guided Maddin through the language of raw materials. By 2015 Maddin earned the title of junior perfumer and began assisting on niche projects. A turning point arrived in 2018 when a single accord created for an independent label—built around Tuscan rose, smoky oakwood and a hint of citrus—earned a feature in a respected perfume journal. The piece attracted boutique retailers and confirmed Maddin’s ability to translate imagination into scent. Since then Maddin has worked with emerging brands, always seeking a dialogue between tradition and contemporary taste.

    How Maddin composes

Maddin favors a modular approach, building scents layer by layer. The top often opens with bright citrus—bergamot, Sicilian lemon, or blood orange—providing instant clarity. The heart leans toward floral absolutes such as Grasse rose, jasmine sambac, or ylang‑ylang, each treated with a light hand to avoid overpowering the composition. Base notes frequently include cedarwood, sandalwood, and a touch of ambergris substitute, giving depth and longevity. Maddin experiments with texture, using micro‑encapsulation to release facets over time. Preference for natural ingredients coexists with strategic use of synthetics that enhance stability without compromising authenticity.

    Philosophy

    What drives Maddin

Maddin treats each formula as a conversation between memory and chemistry. The nose starts with a vivid image—a sunrise over the Mediterranean, a quiet library, a rain‑slick street—and then translates that picture into molecules. Science provides the structure; imagination supplies the direction. Maddin believes that fragrance should respect the source, so sustainable harvesting and transparent sourcing guide every decision. The creative spark ignites when a single note reveals a hidden relationship, and the rest of the composition follows. Ultimately, Maddin aims to craft scents that feel both personal and universal, inviting wearers to pause and recall their own stories.
