    Domitille Michallon-Bertier

Domitille Michallon-Bertier dreamed of designing buildings before she discovered she could design scents. While still in high school, she stumbled upon ISIPCA, Paris's prestigious perfumery institute, and redirected her architectural ambitions toward the invisible structures of fragrance. She enrolled, graduated, and joined International Flavors & Fragrances as a trainee in 1994, where she has remained ever since. In 2007, IFF promoted her to Senior Perfumer. Three decades into her career and after more than twenty-six years with the company, she ascended to Head of Perfumers at IFF in February 2021, overseeing a roster of talented nose practitioners at the firm's Neuilly-sur-Seine offices. Her portfolio spans both luxury houses and accessible brands, proving that her creative range knows few boundaries. For Domitille, perfumery never stopped being architecture by other means, she simply trades blueprints for botanical molecules.

    The signature

    How Domitille composes

Her style resists easy categorisation. Domitille's work spans the gourmand territory of Un Deux Trois Soleil, the clean assertiveness of Touch of Pink, and the modern femininity of Lanvin Me and Lanvin Jeanne Lanvin. She handles florals with particular confidence but has shown equal comfort with woody drydowns, citrus brightness, and unexpected accords that veer from expectation. Her signature lies in clarity of construction, in fragrances that smell expensive without announcing themselves.

    Philosophy

    What drives Domitille

Domitille works with an architect's instinct, favouring structure and deliberate proportion over decoration. She has spoken about the importance of intuition in a craft that also demands rigorous technical control, calling perseverance one of her most essential tools. Her philosophy centres on timelessness, on creating fragrances that feel neither dated nor fashionable but quietly enduring. She approaches each brief not as a constraint but as a framework within which to build something that outlasts seasonal trends.
