    Anjali Vandemark

Anjali Vandemark grew up in the bustling streets of Nagpur, where the scent of jasmine, incense and fresh mangoes filled her childhood. A trained vocalist, she learned to listen for nuance, a skill that later guided her nose. After moving to Bainbridge Island, Washington, she kept a full‑time job while experimenting in a modest home lab. In 2017 she launched Anjali Perfumes, turning a personal hobby into a boutique label. Her first public release, a bright mango‑laced composition, earned praise for its honesty and earned her a spot in the indie perfume community. Since then she has built a small studio, hand‑mixing each batch and inviting collectors to experience a slice of her Indian heritage through scent.

    How Anjali composes

Anjali favors natural extracts and essential oils, often layering citrus top notes with heart accords of rose, jasmine or mogra. She anchors many creations with warm spices such as saffron, cardamom or clove, then grounds them with woods like sandalwood or cedar. Her process begins with a single scent memory, which she translates into a short accord before expanding it into a full composition. She prefers to work in small, hand‑blended batches, allowing her to adjust each ingredient until the balance feels exact. The result is a collection of perfumes that feel handcrafted, vivid, and unmistakably rooted in her Indian upbringing.

    Philosophy

    What drives Anjali

Anjali treats each fragrance as a conversation between memory and material. She believes scent should echo a feeling as directly as a song hits a note, so she draws on childhood aromas, traditional Indian rituals and contemporary art. Her work respects the environment; she sources ingredients responsibly and favors small‑batch production to maintain intimacy. By blending familiar spices with unexpected floral accents, she aims to make perfume a bridge between cultures, inviting wearers to pause and recall a moment that feels both personal and universal.
