Heritage
A house, in its own words
Wild Spirit Fragrances emerged in 2018 as a fresh chapter within the Raw Spirit family, a fragrance house recognized for its work with indigenous Australian ingredients. The brand was co-founded by Joyce Lanigan and Russel James, two entrepreneurs who identified a gap in the market for affordable, conscience-conscious perfumes. Joyce Lanigan, who now serves as CEO, entered the fragrance industry through what she has described as an accidental path into perfumery. Her background in entrepreneurship and Russel James background as a photographer brought unconventional perspectives to scent creation. Rather than building from scratch, the founders leveraged the expertise and formulation foundations of Raw Spirit while carving out a distinct identity for Wild Spirit. The 2018 launch brought multiple fragrances to market simultaneously, including First Snow, Chill, Spring Jasmine, and Driftwood, establishing the brand with a breadth of scent families right from the start. Rosy Glow followed in 2019 as a permanent addition. The decision to keep production in the United States reflects the founders commitment to their home base in upstate New York, a region known for its creative community and proximity to natural landscapes that influence the brand ethos.
Wild Spirit operates on the conviction that fragrance should not require compromise. The brand builds its collections around clean formulation standards, specifically excluding parabens, sulphates, and synthetic dyes from its products. This chemical-conscious approach aligns with broader clean beauty values while recognizing that fragrance lovers should not have to sacrifice their principles for pleasing scents. The brand tagline, Reinvent Your Scent, captures its orientation toward exploration and self-discovery through fragrance. Rather than positioning perfume as a static accessory, Wild Spirit encourages wearers to experiment, shift, and reinvent their olfactory identity over time. Vegan and cruelty-free certifications underpin the ethical dimension of this philosophy, ensuring that no animal testing or animal-derived ingredients enter the supply chain. Environmental awareness forms another pillar, with the brand mindful of its footprint throughout product development and packaging decisions. The founders view clean beauty not as a trend but as a baseline expectation, particularly as consumer awareness around ingredient transparency continues to grow.
