    Thom Browne

Thom Browne, the American fashion house founded in New York City, entered fragrance in 2019 with a debut collection rooted in the designer's signature approach to menswear-inspired tailoring and precision. The fragrance line marked the brand's first venture into scent, built around a single botanical note, vetiver, explored through six distinct compositions including Vetyver And Grapefruit, Vetyver And Rose, and Vetyver And Whiskey. The collection is positioned as genderless, reflecting Browne's longstanding practice of adapting traditional suiting conventions for a broader audience.

    Heritage

A house, in its own words

Thom Browne launched his label in 2001 with just five suits, sold from a small appointment-only shop in New York City's West Village. The designer, born on September 27, 1965, trained in tailoring and built his reputation on shrunken proportions, gray flannel, and a reinterpretation of classic American suiting. In the years that followed, the business grew from that single storefront into a globally recognized fashion house with runway shows in Paris, ready-to-wear collections for men and women, and a presence on Madison Avenue and in luxury retail worldwide. Browne expanded beyond clothing into eyewear, childrenswear, tailoring accessories, and home goods over the course of the 2000s and 2010s, establishing a fully realized lifestyle brand while keeping the original West Village shop as a touchstone. Fragrance arrived relatively late in the brand's development. In 2019, Thom Browne introduced the house's first scent collection, a deliberate and highly personal debut that drew directly from the designer's own taste and biography. The timing reflected both the maturation of the label and a wider industry trend toward fashion houses extending into beauty as a natural extension of their identity. Since then, the fragrance category has continued to grow within the broader Thom Browne universe. Thom Browne's creative vision has always centered on subverting formality. He takes the rigid codes of traditional tailoring and softens, shrinks, or inverts them, creating garments that feel both familiar and quietly radical. That sensibility carries directly into the fragrance collection. Rather than building complex compositions from dozens of ingredients, the debut scents each isolate vetiver and reshape it through a single complementary note: cucumber for a clean green profile, whiskey for warmth, rose for floral depth, smoke for something darker, grapefruit for brightness, and an absolute for undiluted intensity. The result is a collection that functions as a study in variation, where one idea produces six distinct expressions. Each bottle is labeled with the date of the designer's birth, 09.27.65, followed by a serial number (01 through 06). The numerology reflects Browne's interest in personal biography as design language. A shirt cuff, a gray suit, a red-white-and-blue grosgrain ribbon: the house builds its identity from small, repeatable signatures. Fragrance extends that principle. The scents are intended to be worn by anyone, aligning with the designer's longstanding refusal to separate menswear and womenswear in his runway presentations.
