Heritage
A house, in its own words
Adrian Runhof was born in Mainz, Germany in 1963 and grew up immersed in the family business of fashion production and retail. After pursuing business administration studies, he established his own fashion brand, developing the aesthetic sensibility that would later define Talbot Runhof. The partnership with Johnny Talbot emerged from their shared experiences in the fashion industry, where both developed an appreciation for exceptional fabrics and meticulous construction. The Talbot Runhof label became known for occasion wear and evening gowns crafted from sumptuous materials, with the designers placing particular emphasis on the luxurious fabrics that form the foundation of their garments. This focus on textile craft became the conceptual bridge to their 2022 fragrance collection, where each scent takes its name from a fabric type that holds significance within the brand's design vocabulary. The six debut perfumes (Purple Tweed, Purple Cotton, Purple Sequins, Purple Velvet, Purple Satin, and Purple Leather) were composed by Sylvie Fischer and Jérôme di Marino of Takasago, an international fragrance house with Japanese heritage. The collaboration brought together German fashion sensibility with Japanese perfumery expertise.
The Talbot Runhof approach to both fashion and fragrance centers on a reverence for materials and construction. Johnny Talbot and Adrian Runhof share a credo that prioritizes exceptional fabrics and thoughtful design for special occasions. This philosophy manifests in their fashion collections, where the choice of textile often drives the design process rather than following it. When developing their fragrance line, the designers extended this material-focused thinking into scent composition, selecting fabric names that resonate with their fashion house identity. Each perfume in the collection corresponds to a fabric type that carries specific meaning within the Talbot Runhof world, creating a direct throughline from their garments to their scents. The partnership between Talbot and Runhof is described as guided by shared values around quality and occasion dressing, with their designs intended for moments that warrant something special. Their fragrances follow this same principle, offering scents meant for memorable occasions rather than everyday wear.
