A house, in its own words
St. Narcissus is the creation of Greek perfumer Apostolos Zanias, who launched the house in 2023 as the olfactory counterpart to his Athens-based boutique, Scent Narcissus. The boutique opened in central Athens as a niche sensory space dedicated to fragrance exploration, and the brand grew out of that physical location rather than preceding it. Zanias had already built a presence in the Greek niche fragrance community before formalizing the St. Narcissus line, and the house's debut releases that same year, including Maiden Wood and the numbered compositions 1312 and 2023, signaled an intent to work outside conventional perfumery categories. The name itself draws on the Greek myth of Narcissus, a figure long associated in European perfumery with white florals and melancholic beauty, a connection most famously crystallized in Caron's Narcisse Noir of 1912. St. Narcissus inherits that lineage but inverts its register, pairing the mythological reference with what the brand describes as a 'cult of self' and darker, more confrontational impulses. The brand has continued to expand its catalog rapidly, releasing additional scents like Dame Veneno, Selene, and The Possessed Girl in the Attic through 2024 and 2025. Zanias has spoken about St. Narcissus as a project built around shadow rather than light, a fragrance house aimed at wearers who, in his framing, do not run from their darker impulses. This positions the brand in deliberate opposition to the sunlit, escapist marketing common in mainstream fragrance. Drawing on Greek botanical tradition, the house links scent to the four classical elements and frames each composition as a way to connect the wearer to a specific earthly or celestial correspondence. The naming conventions, invoking saints, sirens, femme fatales, and haunted figures, suggest a literary, almost theological approach to scent, where perfume becomes a vehicle for archetype and self-confrontation. Rather than chasing trends or mass appeal, St. Narcissus operates as a small, personal creative practice tied to the Athens boutique.
