Heritage
A house, in its own words
The story starts in 2005 when Sarah Jessica Parker, already known for her role on Sex and the City, partnered with Coty to bottle a fragrance she had been formulating for years. Lovely debuted as a light floral‑musk, a composition that combined mandarin, lavender, apple, bergamot, orchid, patchouli and amber. The perfume’s modest launch quickly turned into a cult favorite, prompting Parker to expand the line. In 2007 she introduced Covet, a sweeter, fruit‑forward scent that leaned into the actress’s playful side. Two years later SJP NYC arrived, a city‑inspired Eau de Parfum that referenced the energy of New York with notes of citrus and spice. After a brief pause in new releases, the brand returned in 2014 when the licensing agreement with Coty was renewed, allowing Parker to explore more experimental formats. The Stash SJP series, launched in 2016, presented mini‑size, unisex scents meant for on‑the‑go sampling; subsequent variations such as Stash SJP Unspoken (2017) and Stash SJP Pure Crush (2011) broadened the palette. 2016 also saw the introduction of Lovely Sheer, a lighter, aerosol‑type version that emphasized everyday wear. The 2025 launch of Smitten in Pink, crafted by perfumer Linda Chinery of Takasago, marked the brand’s first collaboration with an external nose in over a decade, signaling a willingness to blend Parker’s aesthetic with contemporary perfumery trends. In April 2026 the brand celebrated the 20‑year anniversary of Lovely with a social‑media relaunch that highlighted the original formula’s longevity. Throughout its history the line has remained anchored by Parker’s personal involvement, from selecting raw materials to approving final bottle sketches, ensuring each release feels like an extension of her own style narrative. The brand’s creative vision rests on the idea that fragrance should echo the rhythm of daily life rather than sit on a shelf as a decorative object. Parker has spoken about wanting scents that feel like a well‑worn sweater—comfortable, familiar, yet capable of surprising moments. This translates into a focus on approachable compositions that avoid overly niche ingredients while still delivering depth through layered accords. Sustainability also informs the brand’s choices; recyclable glass is standard for most bottles, and packaging design emphasizes minimal waste. Parker’s involvement in the scent‑making process is hands‑on: she reviews note selections, tests prototypes on her skin, and often references personal memories—such as a summer in the Hamptons or a walk through Manhattan’s streets—to guide the olfactory narrative. The brand therefore positions itself as a bridge between celebrity influence and genuine fragrance craftsmanship, aiming to create products that listeners can wear without feeling they are performing a persona.
