A house, in its own words
The Royall Fragrances story begins in 1957 with Anthony J. Gaade, a celebrated Bermudian yachtsman who competed in International Races. Gaade shared a vision: to translate Bermuda's singular atmosphere into wearable form. Sailing the island's waters gave him an intimate understanding of how light, salt, and green interact in the Atlantic air. He founded The Royall Family of Fragrances with this mission at its core. The flagship creation, Royall Lyme of Bermuda, arrived as a tribute to the island's heritage and later commemorated the 400th anniversary of Sir George Somers' arrival in 1609, the founder of the English colony. Over the decades, Royall built a loyal following among men who wanted fragrance with genuine character rather than synthetic polish. The house expanded its collection while remaining true to its island roots, producing men's colognes and luxury soaps that honor the original vision. Today, Royall Fragrances continues as a specialist in men's grooming, maintaining the founder's belief that authentic masculinity has a scent.
Royall Fragrances operates from a simple conviction: a fragrance should transport you somewhere real. While other houses chase trends, Royall has stayed loyal to its island origins since 1957. The philosophy centers on capturing the genuine atmosphere of Bermuda rather than constructing an idealized version. Anthony J. Gaade believed that true masculinity needed no artifice. His fragrances draw from the island's actual materials, creating scent memories that feel earned rather than manufactured. This approach shows in the composition: raw, natural materials arranged with straightforward purpose. The house rejects the notion that men's fragrance must apologize for being masculine. Instead, Royall embraces it, building around bold citrus and green notes that speak directly. The philosophy asks one question: does this smell like Bermuda? If yes, it belongs. If no, it does not.
