Heritage
A house, in its own words
Reem Acra was born in Lebanon and pursued fashion studies across multiple cities, including Beirut, Paris, and New York. She established her label in 1997, beginning as a bridal collection before expanding into broader ready-to-wear offerings. Her work in bridal design has been noted for its classical motifs and elegant approach, with the signature bridal gown becoming a recognized part of her fashion identity. Acra's Lebanese heritage runs through her creative output, and she has maintained strong connections to her homeland throughout her career. The Reem Acra fragrance, launched in 2012, represented her first venture into beauty and fragrance. She developed the scent in partnership with TPR Holdings LLC and Firmenich perfumer Pierre Negrin. The inspiration came directly from Acra's childhood experiences collecting amber in the cedarwood forests of Lebanon, a personal memory that she wanted to translate into an olfactory experience. Her return to Beirut with her first store there was covered by The Washington Post, marking a significant homecoming for the designer. The fragrance industry coverage of her launch appeared in trade publications including WWD, which reported on the collaboration with Pierre Negrin and the top notes of orange blossom featured in the scent. Reem Acra approaches fragrance as an extension of personal identity and storytelling. Rather than following seasonal trends, she draws from her own life experiences to create scents that carry emotional weight. The Reem Acra Eau de Parfum emerged from a desire to bottle childhood memories, specifically her experiences gathering amber in Lebanese cedar forests. This personal connection to ingredients and place shapes her approach to perfumery. She believes fragrance should communicate something beyond what fashion can express, working through scent to evoke memories and a sense of place. Her Lebanese roots inform her perspective, with the ancient amber found in her homeland playing a symbolic role in her inaugural fragrance. The collaboration with Pierre Negrin at Firmenich allowed her to translate these personal narratives into a wearable form. Acra's philosophy prioritizes authenticity over trend-chasing, treating fragrance as a intimate medium for self-expression rather than a commercial product category.
