Heritage
A house, in its own words
Rebel Intuitive Perfumerie emerged from the partnership of Beckie Sheloske and Katy Knuth, two creative professionals whose paths converged around a shared interest in scent as a vehicle for personal expression. Sheloske is a certified natural perfumer with the Natural Perfumers Guild, a credential that established her technical foundation before the brand launched. Knuth, originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, relocated to Montpelier, Vermont, where the house set up its base of operations. The label released its first three fragrances in 2014, including Ninon, Winter Lewd, and Grace at 67th, marking the beginning of a deliberately unhurried output. Rather than scaling rapidly, the founders positioned Rebel Intuitive as a small, intentional operation. The brand has continued to operate from its Vermont home, with both founders maintaining the hands-on approach that defined its early years. Rebel Intuitive Perfumerie operates on the conviction that natural materials carry an expressive depth that synthetic alternatives cannot replicate. Both Sheloske and Knuth approach fragrance as an intuitive, almost instinctive art form, one that prioritizes emotional resonance over commercial calculation. The house's creative direction centers on the idea that perfume should provoke rather than placate, and that botanical compositions can carry complexity, sensuality, and even confrontation without resorting to synthetic aroma chemicals. Sheloske's training within the Natural Perfumers Guild reinforces a commitment to plant-derived ingredients and traditional perfumery methods. The label resists the conventions of mainstream fragrance marketing, instead cultivating a close relationship with wearers who appreciate the individuality of small-batch natural perfumery.
