Heritage
A house, in its own words
Parfums Lalun emerged in September 2012 when Maggie Mahboubian introduced her debut collection at a Los Angeles fragrance salon. The launch marked a transition from what Mahboubian herself described as life in an ivory tower into the active world of independent perfumery. Drawing on her Persian roots, Mahboubian built a house whose identity is rooted in the cultural memory of her ancestors, particularly the Qajar dynasty, an era often referenced in her fragrance naming and composition. The debut collection of five scents arrived simultaneously, each one a distinct exploration rather than a commercial lineup. The house has remained a small, personal project rather than a scaled brand, with its heritage tied closely to Mahboubian's own background and olfactory sensibility rather than to inherited corporate lineage. Mahboubian's creative vision centers on storytelling through scent, with each Parfums Lalun fragrance functioning as an autobiographical or culturally specific narrative. The house does not chase trends or build around recognizable commercial structures like flankers or seasonal limited editions. Instead, the perfumer composes from instinct and memory, drawing on the landscapes, gardens, and historical periods of her Persian heritage. Her own words about being propelled out of her ivory tower suggest a philosophy shaped by the tension between the cloistered world of study and the public nature of launching a fragrance brand. The result is a collection that reads as personal diary entries rendered in aromatic form, each scent a self-contained piece rather than part of a broader marketing architecture.
