Heritage
A house, in its own words
The origins of Manoush trace back to 2014, when a small team of Greek fragrance enthusiasts launched the label in Athens. Early interviews with the founders describe a desire to move beyond the dominant Western perfume narratives and to highlight the aromatic heritage of the Eastern Mediterranean. The first few releases were limited‑edition blends distributed through boutique partners in Greece and Cyprus. By 2016 the brand secured a modest production facility in the industrial district of Piraeus, allowing greater control over ingredient sourcing and batch consistency. The Bohemian series, introduced in 2021, marked a turning point: four scents released simultaneously, each named after a cultural archetype, received coverage in independent fragrance blogs and on Fragrantica. The collection’s reception encouraged Manoush to expand its distribution to specialty retailers in France, Germany and the United Kingdom. In 2022 the house announced a collaboration with a historic olive oil cooperative, integrating cold‑pressed olive leaf extract into a limited‑run perfume that highlighted sustainable sourcing. Throughout its development, Manoush has remained privately owned, with no public equity partners, and continues to operate from its Athens headquarters while maintaining a modest staff of perfumers, designers and logistics specialists. Manoush’s creative vision rests on the idea that scent can act as a bridge between past and present. The brand’s statements emphasize respect for natural materials, a measured use of synthetics, and a commitment to storytelling rooted in place. Each fragrance is presented as a vignette – a snapshot of a Mediterranean garden at dawn, a sun‑baked stone wall, or a quiet evening market. The house avoids overt marketing language, instead allowing the olfactory composition to speak for itself. Sustainability appears in the brand’s sourcing policy: raw materials such as patchouli, rose and musk are obtained from certified farms that practice crop rotation and low‑impact harvesting. Manoush also supports local artisans by commissioning hand‑blown glass for its bottles, reinforcing the link between the perfume and its cultural context. The brand’s values include transparency, modest growth, and an emphasis on craftsmanship over mass appeal.
