Heritage
A house, in its own words
The house was founded by Marie-Jeanne Combredet, who established the brand to capture the sensory richness of Morocco. The name itself points to the brand's mission: les sens, meaning the senses, combined with Marrakech, the imperial city that serves as both geographic anchor and creative wellspring. Morocco occupies a singular position in the history of perfumery, having long served as a source of precious raw materials, from rose absolute grown in the Dades Valley to neroli distilled from bitter orange blossoms in the coastal regions. Les Sens de Marrakech emerged from this tradition, creating a bridge between Moroccan material culture and the international language of fine fragrance. While the house operates from Marrakech itself, its creative partnerships extend to Grasse, the French town synonymous with perfume artistry for centuries. This dual identity as a Moroccan brand with French technical collaboration defines its approach to heritage and craft. The brand's philosophy centers on place and provenance. Rather than constructing perfumes around abstract concepts, Les Sens de Marrakech anchors each composition in a specific Moroccan ingredient or landscape, allowing the material itself to dictate the direction of the fragrance. This approach prioritizes authenticity over invention, drawing on ingredients that have shaped Moroccan perfumery traditions for generations. The decision to work with external perfumers from Grasse reflects a pragmatic acknowledgment that translating raw materials into finished perfume requires specialized expertise. The brand positions itself as a vehicle for Moroccan sensory culture rather than as a showcase for a singular creative vision. This collective approach, combining local knowledge of ingredients with French technical mastery, represents the brand's core operating model.
