Lake and Skye was founded in 2015 by Courtney Somer, who named the brand after her two daughters. The idea emerged from Somer's interest in merging wellness knowledge with the art of scent, creating products that function as intentional gifts rather than mere accessories. In the early years, the brand built a following through direct-to-consumer channels and social media, where the personal story behind the name resonated with consumers seeking meaning alongside fragrance. The brand's growth trajectory caught the attention of Tru Fragrance Partners, which had been working with Lake and Skye since its inception. On January 8, 2025, Tru Fragrance announced its acquisition of the brand. Tru Fragrance itself traces its roots to 1969, bringing decades of industry experience to the partnership. The acquisition positioned Lake and Skye for expanded retail distribution, including placement at major beauty destinations like Ulta Beauty, Nordstrom, and Blue Mercury. Throughout its first decade, the brand maintained its clean fragrance positioning while expanding from its initial fragrance oil offerings into candles, body mists, and additional scent families. The transition to a larger portfolio reflected both evolving consumer demand and the brand's commitment to making intentional fragrance accessible across product categories. At its core, Lake and Skye treats fragrance as a vehicle for emotional and physical well-being. The brand operates from the premise that what we smell can shape how we feel, and their product development reflects this belief. Each scent is conceived with a specific intention or mood in mind, whether that involves grounding, energizing, or creating a sense of calm.
