Heritage
A house, in its own words
Kim Kardashian's fragrance journey began in 2009 with the launch of her debut eponymous perfume, marking her entry into the beauty industry long before the broader empire took shape. Subsequent releases followed a consistent pattern over the following years, with Gold arriving in 2011, followed by True Reflection and Kim Kardashian Love in 2012, and Pure Honey in 2013. She expanded her scented offerings further with Fleur Fatale in 2014. The formal establishment of KKW Fragrance in 2017 aligned with the creation of KKW Beauty, both operating under her larger brand structure. KKW Beauty alone was valued at over US$1 billion by 2021, demonstrating the commercial strength of her beauty ventures. However, both KKW Beauty and KKW Fragrance ceased operations in 2022, closing this chapter of her brand portfolio. In the years following, Kardashian pivoted fragrances again, working with the fragrance house Givaudan to develop an expanded Crystal Gardenia collection. The original single-scent concept reportedly expanded into three variants after suggestions from Givaudan's team, resulting in Crystal Gardenia, Crystal Gardenia Oud, and Crystal Gardenia Citrus. A new fragrance direction emerged publicly in 2024 with the announcement of Divorce, carrying the tagline Freedom never smell this good. Kim Kardashian's approach to fragrance centers on personal expression and accessibility. Rather than positioning herself as a perfumer with technical expertise, she has positioned her brand identity as the creative foundation, serving as a collaborator who contributes taste preferences, naming conventions, and personal endorsement. Her fragrances tend to reflect themes from her public persona and life moments, as evidenced by the Divorce fragrance's explicit connection to a significant personal transition. The Crystal Gardenia line demonstrates this approach, with the candle variant launching as a direct extension of the perfume, sharing the same name and sensory profile for home use. This philosophy extends beyond singular scents into broader lifestyle integration, incorporating the candle and potentially future home fragrance products. The decision to expand from one scent concept to three variants reportedly came from external creative suggestions, indicating a collaborative development process that balances Kardashian's brand intuition with industry expertise.
