Heritage
A house, in its own words
Horst M. Rechelbacher built his first beauty empire with Aveda, which he sold to Estée Lauder in 1997, but his most personal work came after. Originally conceived as a supplement brand in the 1990s, Intelligent Nutrients transitioned into a full organic beauty line in 2008, representing Rechelbacher's evolved thinking about what personal care could be. His background as a hairdressing stylist gave him intimate knowledge of how products interact with skin and hair over time. As an active environmentalist and organic farmer, he refused to accept the conventional wisdom that natural products had to compromise on performance. The brand earned a devoted following precisely because it refused to choose between effectiveness and integrity. Rechelbacher earned the title "Father of Safe Cosmetics" for his persistent advocacy of ingredient transparency long before it became an industry standard. Today the company continues under the I-N name, carrying forward his founding principles while expanding its reach. "Everything put on our bodies should be nutritious and safe." This directive from Horst Rechelbacher drives every formulation decision at I-N. The brand operates from a fundamental rejection of the idea that synthetic ingredients are necessary for superior performance. Instead, Intelligent Nutrients maintains that plant-based ingredients, when properly sourced and processed, can deliver results that rival or exceed conventional alternatives. The commitment extends beyond ingredient selection to encompass a broader philosophy of interconnected wellness, where personal care serves not just individual health but environmental responsibility. This dual focus on personal and planetary wellbeing distinguishes the brand in a crowded natural beauty space. The emphasis on clinical proof sets Intelligent Nutrients apart from brands that rely solely on marketing claims without substantiation.
